I haven’t actually been myself, but I’ve heard that there is a Multicultural Student lounge here at North Seattle College. It’s great to see our college take part in such things. I think this is a great opportunity for students to get to know each other’s cultures and backgrounds. Since this is a judge free zone, it’s a comfort place for both students and workers. However i never heard of the Multicultural student lounge until this class, so I feel that not many others know about this. This, and other multicultural clubs should be advertised more. Some ideas on what could be done is more advertising. The school can better advertise this by posting on the school web page, posting flyers around campus. Personally I think that word of mouth travels really well, the more people like it the more people will talk about it.
The first video with the hummingbird really touched me. Because the hummingbird was doing the best he can. Even though it may not look like he was doing much, at least he was putting an effort while the other animals watched. Maybe this inspired the other animals to help put out the fire. Other people in our everyday world need the same motivation, so why not motivate others? After watching the Ted Talk video by Janet Stovall, she taught me that being single minded isn’t just about caring for something, “Its caring about something enough to do something about it.” It’s not just thinking, its doing.” Just like a hummingbird in the first video. In business there are people of all different diversities who work together. I think that diversity in a business and work environment is important. The video also states that the more ethnically diverse a work business is the better the performance. I also think that diversity should be eliminated when it comes to the hiring process. People are already judged based on their name alone. I think that diversity should be looked at rather than inclusion. Because inclusion shouldn’t be based on diversity, it should be based on performance.
