problem identification
You will identify a specific problem, reflect on the nature of that problem, and discuss the various ways that different people have tried to respond to the problem. To discover what others think, you will need to do some research (through the library, on the internet, etc.). Focus on your response (i.e., what you think, how you feel) to the ideas and perspectives you uncover in your research. Your audience should come away with a sense of why you care about this problem and how you are trying to make sense of what others think about the problem. However, remember that your goal is not to solve the problem; your goal is to explore. By the end of your essay, this exploration should help your audience develop a deeper understanding of the different perspectives on the problem, and they should be better equipped to make their own informed choices (about 4 -6 pages).
