The Decline in Adult Activities

The article I read and the reason why I chose it

I read the article called The Decline in Adult Activities Among U.S. Adolescents, 1976–2016 written by Jean Twenge and Heejung Park. The reason for choosing this article was because it highlights the reasons why fewer adolescents in the past years engage in the adult’s activities.

What research question was this article trying to answer? Please be as specific as possible.

The research question I was trying to answer was the reason why fewer adolescents engage in the adult activities.

Why is this an important research question? Is there a gap in scientific knowledge on the subject? Is there some way for this work to be applied in the real world?

The reason behind the adolescents not engaging in the adult’s activities is an important research question according to me since the adult activities from the research was less common when the median income, life expectancy as well as the college enrolment was high. This work can be applied in the real world because it is a common phrase among several countries in the world.

Describe how the researchers went about answering their research question. What did participants in the study do? What did the researchers measure?

The researchers went about answering the research question by drawing from the seven large, nationally representative data sets that were analyzed by the government of the United States. The researchers examined one or more adult activities including having sex, dating as well as drinking alcohol among other major adult activities.

What were the main findings? What did the authors conclude about their research question?

the decline in the adult activities seemed to be among the boys and girls, whites and blacks as well as lower SES and higher SES adolescents when examined the four regions od the United States. The authors conclusion about the research was that the adolescents in the recent time are less likely as compared to the predecessors to engage in the activities barely carried out by the children but regularly carried out by the adults.

What did you find most interesting about this study? What do you think the researcher(s) should investigate next?

The most interesting this I found in the study was that children currently do not engage in the activities meant for adults as compared to the past.
